Proposed development of Varsputs WEF, near Springbok, N Cape

The Applicant is proposing the development of the Varsputs Wind Energy Facility (WEF), including a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), approximately 50km north-east of Springbok in the Northern Cape Province. The facilities, including the associated grid connection infrastructure, fall within the Springbok Renewable Energy Development Zone (REDZ). The WEF is expected to generate up to 320MW and will include a BESS, on-site IPP substation (33/132kV) and all associated infrastructure for the realisation of the wind facility.

Note that the associated grid connection will be subject to a separate Environmental Authorisation process.
