Proposed 400kV Powerline from Ferrum to Upington Substations, within the ZF Mgcawu and John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipalities, Northern Cape Province
The proposed Project entails the construction of a 400 kV power line from Ferrum Substation to Upington Substation, and associated feeder bays.
Authorisation for the Project was initially granted by the DFFE, which was then referred to as the DEA, on 24 April 2014 (DEA Reference 12/12/20/2607). However, since then, there have been deviations to the power line as a result of negotiations and land being proclaimed as a nature reserve.
These deviations have resulted in the line moving outside of the authorised corridor, which need to be authorised in terms of NEMA. The 2014 EA subsequently lapsed and hence a new Basic Assessment Process (BA) has been undertaken. Note that this new BA process, has been undertaken for the entire route and not just the new deviations and includes both the previously authorised corridor and proposed 90m deviation corridor.
