Proposed Development of Brakputs Wind Energy Facility, with BESS and Associated Infrastructure, near Springbok, Northern Cape Province
The Applicant (Brakputs Wind (Pty) Ltd) is proposing the development of a Wind Energy Facility (WEF), including a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), approximately 50km north-east of Springbok in the Northern Cape Province. Brakputs WEF is expected to generate up to 400MW and will include BESS, on-site Independent Power Producer (IPP) substation (33/132kV) and all associated infrastructure for the realisation of the wind facility. The facility, including the associated grid connection infrastructure, falls within the Springbok Renewable Energy Development Zone (REDZ).

Note that the associated grid connection infrastructure will be subject to a separate Environmental Authorisation process.
