THE BACKFILLING OF TAILINGS MATERIAL INTO OPENCAST PITS AT MODIKWA PLATINUM MINE, FETAKGOMO TUBATSE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY, LIMPOPO PROVINCE

Modikwa Platinum Mine (“MPM”), a joint venture between Anglo American Platinum (“Amplats”) and African Rainbow Minerals (“ARM”), proposes to undertake backfilling of three (3) opencast pits with tailings material as part of the mine’s concurrent rehabilitation strategy. The mining right area includes portions of the farms Maandagshoek 254 KT, Driekop 253 KT, Hendriksplaats 281 KT, Onverwacht 292 KT, Winterveld 293 KT and Doornbosch 294 KT. The mine is situated 15km north-west of Burgersfort in the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality of the Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality, Limpopo Province.
