Ngwelezane Retail Development

Ngwelezane Mall (Pty) Ltd proposes building a retail complex on Proposed Portion 2 of Erf 1241 in Ngwelezane A Township, uMhlathuze Municipality, King Cetshwayo District. The 4.5-hectare property will feature a food anchor store, line shops, a drive-through, food court, taxi rank, and service roads, with parking included. The retail infrastructure will cover 1.9 hectares, and the total development footprint will be 4.1 hectares due to parking needs. The project will connect to existing municipal sewer and water networks. The site falls within the endangered Maputaland Coastal Belt ecosystem and has been previously used for grazing, leading to an alien-dominated forest. The construction will clear 4.1 hectares of indigenous vegetation, triggering certain environmental regulations. Environmental Authorisation through a Basic Assessment process is required, and Confluence Strategic Development (Pty) Ltd has been appointed to handle the application.
