PGS Heritage (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by Mashala Hendrina Coal Pty (Ltd) to conduct a Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey and Test Excavations (TE) to determine whether 2 sets of remains are buried at the location as indicated by the Maseko family.
PGS Heritage has been appointed by Mashala Hendrina Coal, to affect the relocation of graves located on Portion 1 of the farm De Wittekrans 218 IS, near Hendrina, in the Mpumalanga Province. During the stakeholder engagement, a family came forward who identified another new location where their graves are located. The new location was recorded, and subsequent stakeholder meetings were held with the family. They indicated that two possible graves were buried at the location. The surface area was cleared and fenced, and site notices were placed at the site. Since no surface features are visible the client (Mashala Hendrina Coal) requested that a GPR survey and test excavations take place to investigate the family’s claim. The family agreed that the activities could occur.
