Proposed Destructive Procurement of Raw Material for Analysis of Archaeological Lithics.

Destructive analysis of 423 waste flakes from Beaumont' Border Cave collection through petrography and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry. The analysis is conducted to determine the rock types of the waste flakes and to compare them to geological samples for sourcing purposes. These waste flakes belong to the post-Howiesons Poort and Early Later Stone Age layers of Border Cave and can tell us much about the Middle Stone Age/Later Stone Age transition from a raw materials perspective.
