Cons Modder Mine – EA Application and EMPr amendment

Newshelf 1186 (Pty) Ltd (Newshelf 1186) owns and operates the existing Cons Modder Mine which is located on the Remaining Extent of Portion 3 of Modderfontein 76 IR, near the suburb of Sherwood Gardens, in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), Gauteng Province. The mine has authorisations and approvals in place for the current mining activities and infrastructure.

Newshelf 1186 is applying for Environmental Authorisation for additional infrastructure and activities at the mine. These include increasing the overall footprint of the surface infrastructure areas, development of a new decline portal from surface (in the Gedex pit), changes to the access and haul roads, addition of ventilation shafts, conveyor systems, material storage areas, pollution control infrastructure, a grout plant, storage silos, settler dams and sand storage areas. It will also apply for approval for the abstraction of groundwater for potable and service water. The existing EMPr will be amended in compliance with Section 37 and Appendix 4 of the EIA Regulations 2014.
