Eeram Underpass Upgrade

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has identified the need to improve operational conditions on the existing N3 Toll Highway between Harrismith (N3/7X km 35.5) and Warden (N3-8X km 24.6). Operational conditions will be improved by the construction of 7 (seven) interchanges, 5 (five) bridge widenings, widening of two major culverts and the linking of various properties to the newly constructed interchanges.
Further investigation has identified the need to upgrade the current Eeram underpass underneath the N3 Toll Road at N3-7X km 53.6. The current underpass structure will be reconstructed in phases to a 10m wide structure. The structure would be extended by 2.5m on each side (to the North and South). A temporary fill would be constructed to the West of the culvert (inside the road reserve) to assist with the accommodation of traffic. Short linkages to the existing farmer’s access roads would be required to link these roads to the existing road network.
