Please be advised as follows: -
- Taken into consideration that the Arts and Crafts house has undergone alterations and additions and that new outbuildings were built, all of this was done in a sensitive manner, considering the style and ques were taken from the orignal house, when alterations were done and new out buildings were built.
- The front elevation still contributes to the presinct - even if the house is set back far in the yard and most buildings have high security walls. High walls is a general safety structure in South Africa and most houses cannot be seen from the streetscape. The category of analyses here is the presinct.
- Give a more substantial reason for the request to demolish 44 Mentone Road, since the house still has many Arts and Crafts features and addisions were done in the same style.
- The architect stated that this house was not the best example of Arts and Crafts and he is then required to upload a comparative analysis with more examples of Arts and Crafst houses which, in his opinion,is of a better quality and worth conserving within the context of long term conservation.
- It was decided that a site visit was necessary to be undertaken by the Heritage Officers from the Institute.
