Heritage Statement and Impact Assessment for the Proposed Additions and Alterations to Existing Warehouses for the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa on Ptn 3 of Erf 12317, No. 1 Somtseu Rd

Proposed redevelopment of a section of Durban Yard which involves demolition, additions and alteration of buildings and structures older than 60 years that are generally protected in terms of Section 34 of the National Heritage Resources Act (NHRA) (Act No. 25 of 1999), Section 26 (1) of the KwaZulu Natal Heritage Act (KZNHA) (Act No. 4 of 1997), Chapter 8 and section 29 (1) of the KwaZulu Natal Heritage Bill (KZNHB) of 2008. The proposed development is situated within Portion 3 of ERF 12317, 1 Somteu Road, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province. The assessment of the structures and buildings proposed for demolition, extension and alteration are of low architectural merit and heritage significance although older than 60 years.
