Proposed dolerite quarry on the Farm Bersheba 620, Brandfort District

A mining permit is required for a proposed dolerite quarry (<5ha) on the Farm Bersheba 620 in the Brandfort district, Free State. Rock and material from the quarry will be used for the upgrading and maintenance of the N1 road. The proposed activities include clearing if vegetation and topsoil from the site and drilling, blasting and excavation of dolerite / rock within the mining permit footprint of 4.916 ha. Only mobile and temporary structures will be used during the operational period of the proposed quarry.
A diversion berm of topsoil and overburden is planned on the north eastern, north western and south western perimeter of the site. Excavated material will also be temporarily stockpiled and later loaded as and when required for the road construction activities. The activity will take place near Verkeerdevlei in the Free State Province.
