The Proposed Development of Upilanga Solar; Green H2 Park Site 3, (“Upilanga Power 2X Valley”), Karoshoek, near Upington, in the Northern Cape Province, South Africa

Emvelo Energia Proprietary Limited (“Emvelo”), is the developer of the Upilanga Solar and Green Hydrogen Park, a Power-to-X development located at Karoshoek, near the town of Upington, Northern Cape Province, South Africa. Upilanga Solar and Green Hydrogen Park (“Upilanga Valley”) is a Strategic Integrated Project (SIP) 20e, of the Green Hydrogen National Program (GHNP), which was gazetted by Honourable Minister Patricia De Lille in Government Gazette 437658 on 6 December 2022. Emvelo, proposes the development of a 200MW solar photovoltaic (PV) facility that can be realised in 2*100MW phases, as well as associated infrastructure on a study area and development area known as Site 3. The solar PV facility will be known as Upilanga Solar Green Hydrogen 1. The study area falls within the jurisdiction of the Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality and the greater ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, as well as the Upington Renewable Energy Development Zone (REDZ).
