Trentra (Pty) Ltd applied for a Mining Right in terms of section 22 of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act 28 of 2002) (MPRDA) as amended, and simultaneously is applying for an Integrated Environmental Authorisation (IEA) which requires an Environmental Authorisation in terms of Sections 24 (5) and Section 44 of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA) and a Waste Management Licence (WML) for waste management activities in terms of Section 20(b) and Section 45 of the National Environmental Management Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 59 of 2008) (NEMWA). Both legislations are read together with Regulations 21, 22, 23 & 24 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014 (Government Notice R 982) (EIA Regulations). The above-mentioned applications involve the mining of coal and pseudocoal.The Mining Right Application was accepted for portion 19, 46, and 47 of the farm Bankfontein 375 JS, although currently the mining activities are planned to occur on portion 19 and 47 of the farm Bankfontein 375 JS, situated within the Steve Tshwete Magisterial District, Mpumalanga Province.
