Elliotdale Housing Development Project, Amathole District Municipality, Eastern Cape Province

The Department of Human Settlements is engaged in an effort to improve and accelerate delivery of RDP houses
in the Eastern Cape Province and to fast track the implementation of these projects. In so doing, the Department
of Human Settlements is facilitating the proposed construction of internal services and 400 new housing units
at Elliotdale on behalf of the Mbhashe Local Municipality.
The proposed housing project comprises of the:
- provision of internal services for gravel roads and stormwater.
- provision of water reticulation services for 400 units
- construction of 400 new houses with rainwater tanks and
- 400 ISBT toilets
The houses are constructed with a footprint of 40 to 50 m2. Houses will include electrical installation to all living
areas including one DB Board and Solar System (500W). In addition, stormwater control around houses will be
constructed. While the project area is 21.3 hectares, the proposed clearance of indigenous vegetation for the
housing project will be approximately 15 hectares for the roads, houses and infrastructure. Approximately 6.3
hectares of vegetation within the project boundaries will not be cleared for the construction of the housing
project
