Middelkraal Extension Project DEIAR-EMPr

Umcebo Mining Proprietary Limited (“Umcebo”) is the holder of the Middelkraal mining right under DMRE Reference Number MP 30/5/1/2/3/2/1/58 MR (also referred to as the “Middelkraal Colliery”). Umcebo submitted an application in terms of Section 102 of the Mineral Petroleum Resources Development Act (“MPRDA”) to include Pit 4 (on the Remaining extent and Portion 14 of the Farm Middelkraal 50 IS) and Portion 5 the Farm Middelkraal 50 IS into their existing Middelkraal mining right. An application for authorisation in terms of Section 24 of the NEMA was submitted to the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE). The DMR confirmed receipt of the Section 102 application by way of issuing an acceptance letter dated 2 May 2024, wherein a new reference number MP-00206-MR/102 was issued. The Middelkraal Extension EA applied for will be additional to the existing approved EMPr for Middelkraal existing operations, that will remain valid.
The Middelkraal mining right is located approximately 24 km north of Bethal in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa. The project is situated in the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality (GMLM) within the Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM). The project area extends over the Remaining Extent, Portions 5 and 14 of the Farm Middelkraal 50 IS.
