Main Street 800 (Pty) Ltd is applying for an Integrated Environmental Authorisation (IEA) in order to extend its existing opencast pit to include the Makunyula Anthracite Mine North Opencast Pit Project, which requires an Environmental Authorisation in terms of Sections 24 and 24 (D) of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA) and a Waste Management Licence (WML) for waste management activities in terms of Section 20 (b) and Section 45 of the National Environmental Management Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 59 of 2008) (NEMWA). Both legislations are read together with Regulations 21, 22, 23 & 24 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014 (Government Notice R 982) (EIA Regulations).
The proposed Makunyula Anthracite Mine North Opencast Pit Project will be conducted on various portions of the farms Naas 592 JU, Amanxala 436 JU, Brink 431 JU, Nagel 487 JU, Oasis 491 JU, Steenbok 493 JU, Wanhoop 485 JU and Tonga C 946 JU, situated within the Tonga Magisterial District, Mpumalanga Province.
