Proposed GHB Farms (Pty) Ltd Devondale Piggery Operations and Related Infrastructures

The Applicant intends to develop its proposed new Devondale Piggery operations and related infrastructures on Portions 47 and 48 of the Farm Rooipoort 555 JR. The proposed project site is situated approximately 20 km south of Bronkhorstspruit Town, via the R25 and R42 Routes, within the jurisdiction of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality (Ward 105) of the Gauteng Province. The proposed development will comprise (1) a new Sow Unit Piggery on Portion 48 of the Farm Rooipoort 555 JR and (2) a new Grower Unit Piggery on Portions 47 and 48 of the Farm Rooipoort 555 JR. Approximately 16 000 pigs will be housed at the operations at any given time. Process water will be obtained from onsite groundwater resources and will be stored in a central reservoir and JoJo tanks at each of the facilities. Access to the facilities will be via existing access roads and no new roads triggering NEMA Listed Activities are planned. The small volume of sewage and other waste generated by the ablution facilities will be handled via the septic tanks to be pumped out regularly by an external contractor. Biodegradable Industrial Wastewater generated by the piggery operations will be irrigated onto agricultural land as a soil conditioning measure following a liquids/solids separation process.
