Proposal Description
EnviroMatrix has been appointed as Independent Environmental Consultants by Danie Visagie Bdy (Pty) Ltd to
undertake the Environmental Authorisation applications for the proposed development of a chicken layer house and
associated composting facility. Mr Danie Visagie, the owner of Danie Visagie Bdy (Pty) Ltd is the owner of the farm
Wydgelegen 167 on which the proposed layer houses will be built. The proposed project will consist of 6 chicken layer
houses that will accommodate 30 000 chickens each, as well as an egg packing and storage facility. The result chicken
manure will be treated at the proposed composting facility.
The construction aspects of the site are the preparation of the site and stormwater management structures as well as
the construction of the chicken layer houses and associated infrastructure. The dimensions of the chicken layer houses
are approximately 100m x 10m. The area is on an old, cultivated field currently used for cattle grazing purposes.
The operational aspects of the proposed activities are basically that of buying 16 week old chickens, which are then
grown to 80 weeks, whereby they are able to lay eggs
