REFERRAL LETTER

The permit application in respect of the above, received and reviewed on 18 December 2024 by the KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute (The Institute) refers.

Please be advised as follows:

  • The committee noted that the wood-and-iron mixed construction house had been demolished and a new double-storey house constructed in a style that did not take cues from the street in which there were several listed buildings.
  • The earlier 2008 approval for work on the site had not been submitted and the case officer would undertake a review of that application.
  • The application had not included an assessment of the impact the action taken had on the heritage resources in the area.

FURTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • The case officer will review the 2008 application to determine what action was approved.
  • If the demolition had not previously been approved, the committee requires the submission of an assessment of the impact of the action taken on the heritage resources in the area.

Written responses/requests for reconsideration of the application or consideration of new information must be loaded to the case on SAHRIS (email [email protected]) within 30 days of the date of this letter or any requirements/decisions contained herein will be considered final.  Extensions of this time frame can be requested upon receipt of motivation.

Required additional information or revised drawings must be submitted within six months from the date of this letter or the application will lapse and a new application will be required.

THIS LETTER DOES NOT CONSTITUTE FORMAL APPROVAL OF THE PROPOSAL SUBMITTED TO THE INSTITUTE.  UNAUTHORISED WORK CARRIED OUT ON THE ABOVE SITE WILL BE IN CONTRAVENTION OF THE KWAZULU-NATAL AMAFA AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE ACT (5 of 2018).
