REFERRAL LETTER

The permit application in respect of the above, received and reviewed on 11 December 2024 by the KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute (The Institute) refers.

Please be advised as follows:

  • The applicant stated that the application was for the additional structure on the site and that no alterations except basic maintenance would be carried out on the existing structures on site.
  • The applicant also noted that the existing wood-and-iron house was in a derelict state and had been occupied by criminals.
  • The applicant mentioned that the municipality preferred the existing buildings to be demolished and a letter of support would be submitted.
  • The applicant currently requests approval of the alterations and additions at this stage to take control of the property as the approval was a condition of her purchase of the property, including the proposal of a new structure.
  • The applicant was advised that this application could be revised to include the demolition of the existing buildings, but this would entail a public participation process that would allow 30 days, excluding the period 15 December – 15 January, for comment from interested and affected parties.

FURTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Submission Drawings were required.
  • The drawings must comply with the SACAP standards and SANS for submission drawings.
  • A demolition application must be submitted for approval before any work is carried out on the existing buildings.

Written responses/requests for reconsideration of the application or consideration of new information must be loaded to the case on SAHRIS (email [email protected]) within 30 days of the date of this letter or any requirements/decisions contained herein will be considered final.  Extensions of this time frame can be requested upon receipt of motivation.

Required additional information or revised drawings must be submitted within six months from the date of this letter or the application will lapse and a new application will be required.

THIS LETTER DOES NOT CONSTITUTE FORMAL APPROVAL OF THE PROPOSAL SUBMITTED TO THE INSTITUTE.  UNAUTHORISED WORK CARRIED OUT ON THE ABOVE SITE WILL BE IN CONTRAVENTION OF THE KWAZULU-NATAL AMAFA AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE ACT (5 of 2018).
