Proposal Description
Habitat Link Consulting (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by the Eastern Cape Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform (DRDAR) on behalf of the Small Farmers Trust, to apply for an Integrated Environmental Authorisation (EA), Waste Management Licence (WML) and Water Use License Authorization (WULA) for the abovementioned project. Notice is hereby given in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (Act No. 107 of 1998, as amended) of the proposed broiler facility. The development of the facility is proposed to take place on Portion 104 of Farm No. 337 Kruis Rivier, located within the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality of the Sarah Baartman District Municipality in Eastern Cape province. The Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform (DRDAR) has approved the implementation of the First Born broiler facility. The farmer is currently undertaking small-scale poultry farming with informal infrastructure. It is thus the intention of the DRDAR to assist the farmer with the formalisation of the poultry farm establishing a facility that can accommodate 3 300 broilers and other associated infrastructure.
