Proposal Description
Vaalbult Mining Company (Pty) Ltd (Vaalbult Colliery) is applying for an Environmental Authorisation (EA) in order to develop a solar photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of up to 70 MWp that will include up to 50 MWh battery storage, which requires an Environmental Authorisation in terms of Sections 24 (5) and Section 44 of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA). The legislation is read together with Regulations 21, 22, 23 & 24 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014 (Government Notice R 982) (EIA Regulations).
The proposed Vaalbult Solar Photovoltaic Plant Project will be conducted on portions 1 and 10 of the farm Vaalbult 3 IT, situated within the Chief Albert Luthuli Magisterial District, Mpumalanga Province.
The NEMA EA application have been submitted to the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA), Mpumalanga Region.
