Thank you for submitting your permit application on the Restoration of Jetty 1 Building and creation of immersive experience located at the V&A Waterfront, erf nr: 150238, within the jurisdiction of the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality (CPT), Western Cape Province in accordance with Section 27(18) of the National Heritage Resources Act, No. 25 of 1999. The purpose of this permit application is for the restoration of the building and the removal of external paintwork to take it to its original state. The permit application also issues a collaboration between Robben Island Museum and the UWC innovation hub to develop digitally immersive visitor experiences. Visitors will get closer to the experiences of political prisoners and their loved ones when going through the building and inside the boat. This digitally enhanced visitor pathway comprises of a series of interconnected experiences inside the Jetty 1 Building and on the Susan Kruger ferry. The proposed activities aligns with the statutory provisions intended to protect and conserve South Africa's national heritage resources.
