24-2827 Thungela - Thungela Operations - Isibonelo Colliery EMPr Amendment

Thungela Operations (Pty) Ltd (hereafter referred to as the “applicant”) applied for a Section 102 EMPr Amendment in terms of Section 9 of the now repealed Minerals Act (No.50 of 1991) to the Department of Mineral Resources & Energy (DMRE) in respect of the portions in Table 2-4-1 below. The project is located in the local municipalities of eMalahleni and Govan Mbeki and the district municipalities of Nkangala and Gert Sibande, Mpumalanga Province. The purpose of this application is for Isibonelo Colliery to amend the existing Block Zimele EMPr (MP 30/5/1/2/3/2/1 (130) EM) dated 2018 and align and update the current operations in accordance with the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act 28 of 2002, as amended, and the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998, as amended, inclusive of updated property descriptions due to various subdivisions. This update will in addition encompass the planned implementation of the Highwall Mining method at the North and South mining block areas as well as an updated Closure, Decommissioning, Rehabilitation Plan & Annual Financial Provision.
