Excavation and reinstatement of existing heritage structure (earth ‘Levy/Spillway’) at Paradise Valley Nature reserve for the construction of two new bridge piers for the Sanral N3 Freeway expansion.

The N3 is a major part of the South African National Road network system and is a vital arterial between Durban and Johannesburg, for the transport of people and goods from Durban Harbour. The expansion of the N3 is part of the National Treasury Strategic project plan initiated by Cyril Ramaphosa. Given that there are already a substantial number of piers into the valley for the existing freeway, we don’t see the impact of the additional piers for the widening as significantly impactful. Also, the excavation of the original spillway / levy is unavoidable due to the existing alignment of the freeway, and will be reinstated to its original form and cover.
