Proposal Description
The Goodall Family Trust proposes to develop two portions of the Leliefontein 1175 FT, namely Portion 14 and the Remainder of Portion 130, which fall within Ward 18 of the Msunduzi Local Municipality, Umgungundlovu District Municipality. The study area is located east of the R56 at Thornville with the centre of the site at 29°42'56.63"S 30°22'52.70"E (Figures 3 and 4).
The Applicant proposes to develop Precincts 10 and Precinct 11 into a mixed-use development. The proposal is the development of Precincts 10 and 11, which will have a project footprint of 75.5ha , of which 20.9ha will not be developed and will be zoned as environmental reservation. By reserving environmental space, and offering opportunities for commercial development as well as educational, welfare and religious facilities, this development seeks to foster environmental, social and economic benefits to the local community. The concept is for an integrated affordable residential development which will positively contribute to the housing backlog in the local municipality, while simultaneously offering commercial, educational and welfare facilities. The proposed layout has been developed in conjunction with the environmental sensitivities noted onsite.
