PERMIT APPLICATION FOR GROUND-PENETRATING RADAR SURVEY AND TEST EXCAVATIONS, ON THE FARM TURFSPRUIT 241 KR, NEAR MOKOPANE, WITHIN THE WATERBERG DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY AND THE MOGALAKWENA LOCAL MUNICIPALITY IN THE LIMPOPO PROVINCE

PGS Heritage (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by Ivanplats Pty (Ltd), on behalf of the Mokopane Tradition Council, to conduct a Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey and Test Excavations (TE), to determine whether 2 sets of remains are buried at the location as indicated by the Mohlake family.
During the stakeholder engagement, a family came forward who identified their graves on the farm Turfspruit 241 KR, near Mokopane, in the Limpopo Province. The location was recorded, and subsequent stakeholder meetings were held with the family. They indicated that two possible graves were buried at the location. The surface area was cleared and fenced. Since no surface features are visible the client (Ivanplats requested that a GPR survey and test excavations take place to investigate the family’s claim. The family agreed that the activities could occur.
