Proposed Development of a PV facility located near Brits in the North West Province

SolarAfrica Utility 1 (Pty) Ltd has appointed Savannah Environmental (Pty) Ltd to undertake a Scoping and EIA process for the proposed SolarAfrica Brits 1 PV energy facility (116MW). The project is located approximately 9km southwest of Brits and 5km south of Damonsville, within Madibeng Local Municipality and Bojanala Platinum District Municipality.
As the project site is not located within a Renewable Energy Development Zone (REDZ) and the generating capacity of the PV facility will exceed 20MW, a Scoping & EIA (S&EIA) process is required to be undertaken in support of application for Environmental Authorisation (EA) for the project. All phases of the project and the grid connection will be considered in one report. The S&EIA process will identify and assess potential environmental impacts and benefits associated with the proposed PV project and associated grid connection infrastructure.
The proposed development requires Environmental Authorisation in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998) from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE).
