Proposal Description
Riemland Wind Farm 1 (Pty) Ltd, Riemland Wind Farm 2 (Pty) Ltd, Riemland Wind Farm 3 (Pty) Ltd and Riemland Wind Farm 4 (Pty) Ltd are proposing to develop the Riemland Wind Farm Development comprising four adjoining Wind Energy Facilities and associated grid connection infrastructure on a site near Heilbron in the Free State Province.
The applications for Environmental Authorisation are anticipated to be submitted only in 2026. In line with Section 38 of the Act we hereby notify SAHRA of the proposed development and request an interim decision specifically related to Palaeontological heritage. We hereby submit a Palaeontological Heritage Study by John Almond of Natura Viva cc, which states that the overall palaeosensitivity of the project area is assessed as being ZERO to VERY LOW, and the anticipated impacts are likely to be of VERY LOW (negative) significance. The specialist has thus recommended that no further specialist palaeontological heritage input is recommended for these projects. We therefore request approval from SAHRA to exclude a Palaeontological Impact Assessment from the Environmental Impact Assessment Process.
