Proposal Description
Electrical distribution work is proposed for an electrical line supply at Mafini area in Nqgeleni that covers a total of 6 villages within the OR Tambo Local Municipality, Eastern Cape. An Environmental Impact Assessment does not apply to this project. This EMP is conducted independently in terms of the National Environmental Management Act.
The proposed project is the electrical distribution at Mafini Village, which is under the jurisdiction of the OR Tambo Local Municipality. The area of interest is situated a 17km from Nqeleni town. The electrical distribution will be an extension from an already existing electrical distribution within the village households. The houses the distribution is proposed for are built on foothills of steep slopes. Evidence of heavy erosion was noted with a numerous dongas observed. The graveyard area was found to be not in vicinity with the proposed area of redistribution, hence there will not be a disturbance. From the assessment, Mafini Village is not regarded as an environmentally sensitive area, thus minimal interaction with the environment. Therefore, proposed development will not be hindered.
