Proposal Description
The SANRAL is proposing to open two mining areas in the Free State Province. The quarry and borrow pit are situated on the following farms:
• Portion 0 of the Farm Zwartklip 162-RD. The quarry will be 18.717 ha in extent with crushing facilities. The DMRE Ref Number for the quarry is FS 30/5/1/1/2/02168 BP. The quarry is located approximately 30 km north of Harrismith and 19km south of Warden.
• Portion 0 of the farm Willows 1049-RD. The borrow pit will be 13.127 ha in extent. The DMRE Ref Number for the borrow pit is FS 30/5/1/1/2/02187 BP. The borrow pit is located approximately 28km north of Harrismith and 18km south of Warden.
Both the mining areas fall within the boundaries of the Phumelela Local Municipality and the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality in the Free State Province
