RESPONSE LETTER
The permit application in respect of the above, received and reviewed on 19 March 2025 by the KwaZulu-Natal Amafa and Research Institute (The Institute) refers.
Amongst other things the following was discussed:
- The Form I application had been submitted but it did not include the additional buildings built on site.
- The Director of the museum, Brian Xaba, stated that the plans for the Resource Centre had also not been submitted to Amafa for prior approval but had recently been submitted to the municipality for compliance and occupation certification.
- He agreed to add this failure to obtain Amafa approval prior to adding the building to the protected site to the Form I that had been submitted for the felling of the Jacaranda tree and associated landscaping.
FURTHER REQUIREMENTS
- The Form I application must be completed to include the additional Resource Centre building that was added without Amafa approval.
- The drawings submitted to the municipality must also be uploaded to the application.
Written responses/requests for reconsideration of the application or consideration of new information must be loaded to the case on SAHRIS (email [email protected]) within 30 days of the date of this letter or any requirements/decisions contained herein will be considered final. Extensions of this time frame can be requested upon receipt of motivation.
Required additional information or revised drawings must be submitted within six months from the date of this letter or the application will lapse and a new application will be required.
THIS LETTER DOES NOT CONSTITUTE FORMAL APPROVAL OF THE PROPOSAL SUBMITTED TO THE INSTITUTE. UNAUTHORISED WORK CARRIED OUT ON THE ABOVE SITE WILL BE IN CONTRAVENTION OF THE KWAZULU-NATAL AMAFA AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE ACT (5 of 2018).
