The material to be mined consists of unconsolidated sandstone and conglomerate scree and gravel. The average depth of mining will be 1 to 2 metres below surface. The maximum estimated duration of the proposed gravel / stone mining activities is 5 years.
Background & proposed mining method:
The gravel / stone aggregate will be used by customers for road construction and maintenance projects as well as for other construction and development projects in the George area
The proposed mining sequence is as follows:

The mining permit area will be divided into 5 mining blocks. Each mining block is approximately 1 hectare in size.
•
Each mining block will be rehabilitated as soon as mining is completed.
•
Overburden clearing and stockpiling of topsoil using an excavator.
•
Loading of gravel and stone aggregate into trucks.
•
Recording volumes in trucks.
•
Final rehabilitation of slopes to not more than 1:3.
