Proposal Description
The applicant, Van Schalkwyk Vervoer en Konstruksie proposes a residential development of ±12.3ha on annually cultivated agricultural land on Erf RE/22, Riversdale in the Western Cape.
Underground electricity will be laid along the southern border of Erf RE/22 towards the connection point at Lanoria Street. The section of the route to be followed for the electricity cable will cross an indigenous vegetation area as part of Critically Endangered – Eastern Ruens Shale Renosterveld and will lead to the temporary disturbance of more than 300m² of this indigenous vegetation area during the installment of the cable – 175m long x 3m wide = 525m².
The flat laying proposed development area is located northeast of Riversdale existing residential area on annually cultivated agricultural land. To the southeast of the proposed development area lies remnants of disturbed Critically Endangered - Eastern Ruens Shale Renosterveld. These areas are also mapped as terrestrial CBA 1 and CBA 2 areas. These remaining remnants have been significant transformed due to agricultural and urban developments, and they are not connected to any larger remaining indigenous vegetation area or corridors.
