Proposal Description
Edison Solar PV (Pty) Ltd is proposing the development of the Edison Solar PV Energy Facility and associated infrastructure, located approximately 8km east of Durbanville within the City of Cape Town Municipality in the Western Cape Province. The development area is approximately 344ha on Portion 2 of the Farm Matjeskuil 733 and Portion 2 of the Farm Hercules Pilaar 1242.
The development includes a 150MW solar PV facility and 800MWh BESS . The electrical grid infrastructure (EGI) includes an on-site facility substation and a 66kV overhead line to connect the project to the Eskom grid at the existing 66kV Joostenberg Substation located immediately adjacent to the development area. The total line length is approximately 1km.
The infrastructure associated with the Edison Solar PV Energy will include:
• Solar PV arrays, modules, and mounting structures
• Inverters and transformers
• Cabling between the project components
• Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
• On-site substation and switching substation
• 66kV OHL to connect to the Joostenberg Substation
• Site and internal access roads up to 10m in width, where required
• Temporary and permanent laydown areas, O&M buildings, security infrastructure, and fencing around the development area.
Table 1 below provides the details of the project, including the main infrastructure components and services that will be required during the project life cycle.
