Proposal Description
We would like to continue our geological detailed mapping for research in the Barberton Makhonjwa Mountains, geologically known as the Barberton Greenstone Belt. The research we conduct has contributed to South Africa declaring this a WHS but its status needs to be justified and strengthened through continuous scientific work. Our work involves walking carefully along the forestry roads and over the grassy hills as we record rock types and the nature of their deformation. We take occasionally fist-sized samples of rocks using a hammer and document their composition. Our work documents the worldwide uniqueness of these mountains and helps prevent its commercial utilization by mining.
