The applicant Dr Kathleen Wheeler lodges this application on behalf of the owner The Irma Stern Trust for a temporary export permit for 14 artworks from the Irma Stern Trust Collection being 10 oil paintings, 3 works on paper and the Congo Journal by Irma Stern, which are due to be exhibited at the Brücke Museum in Berlin, Germany to be included in the exhibition titled Irma Stern. Eine Künstlerin der Moderne zwischen Berlin und Kapstadt (English: Irma Stern. A Modern Artist between Berlin and Cape Town) from 13 July to 2 November, during the loan period 23 June to 19 November 2025. The loan of these paintings is appropriate as Irma Stern studied in Berlin and had several important exhibitions in the German capital. Furthermore, the loan of these artworks is in terms of Irma Stern's wishes as stated in her Will which are the promotion of fine art both within and without South Africa.
