Proposal Description
Amatshe Mining (Pty) Ltd (“Amatshe”) is applying for an Environmental Authorisation (EA) and Waste Management Licence (WML) (Integrated Environmental Authorisation-IEA) in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (Act No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA) and the National Environmental Management Waste Act (Act No. 59 of 2008) (NEM:WA) for the proposed Gold Ore, Silver Ore, Uranium Ore, Pyrite and Aggregate mining operation within an existing Mining Right (MR) area situated South-East and South-West of Johannesburg. The IEA application requires a full Scoping and Environmental Impact Report (S&EIR) to be submitted to the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) – Gauteng Region, in terms of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (Act No. 28 of 2002) (MPRDA); and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations Government Notice Regulations (GN R) 982 of 4 December 2014 (as amended) and Waste Management Activities of GN 921 of 29 November 2013 (as amended).
In addition, Amatshe is applying for a Water Use License (WUL) in terms of the National Water Act (Act 36 of 1998) (NWA). The WUL application process will be conducted in line with the requirements of GN R267 of 4 March 2017, and submitted to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) during the EIA Phase.
