      Statement of Significance

Geological section in pass with good viewing points. Upper part of pass traverses mudstone and sandstone representing a terrestrial palaeoenvironment of the Abrahamskraal Formation. Two thirds of the way down the Beaufort (Abrahamskraal Fm)/Ecca (Waterford Fm) boundary is crossed. It is a sharp transition from mudstone of the Abrahamskraal Formation into sandstone of the Waterford Formation and represents a change from subaerially-exposed upper delta plain sediments into subaqueous lower delta plain sediments.
