      Statement of Significance

Geological section in pass with a good viewing point from the carpark looking southwest. Mudstone and sandstone of the Late Permian Teekloof Formation are exposed and represent deposition in a terrestrial environment. Younger Early Jurassic dolerite sills intrude the Teekloof Formation in a few places and a thick sill is clearly seen capping Tafelberg some 10 km southwest of the pass. This is one the few places in the Karoo where the entire Teekloof Formation can be seen in section.
