Sited on a glacial pavement on a boulder bed within diamictite of the Elandsvlei Formation (Dwyka Group). Should be graded provincial (II) in line with other glacial pavements such as Nooitgedacht, Kimberley District. The Elandsvlei Formation mostly comprises diamctite and minor shale with dropstones and the complete section across this formation forms a reference stratotype. A reference stratotype is an essential component of a defined stratigraphic unit. Grading by: DOUG COLE

The glacial pavement is one of a few such pavements exposed in South Africa. Secondly, it forms a good reference stratotype since the full thickness of the Elandsvlei Formation is exposed along farm roads over a distance of 15 km with the strata being almost horizontal.
