Deep spherical bowl with slightly curved handle. Handle has crisscross carved design where it joins the bowl and at its end.

Spherical finial with two shallow hemispherical concave indentations in its bottom and top surface. The lower one angles towards the front. On the shaft and just below the finial are two projecting bumps (probably symbolising breasts)

Crossbar curved upwards at either end and decorated at flattened end sections with zigzag design. Lugs descend directly from ends of platform and are roughly flat squares with linear and other designs. Two pillars that curve inwards at the centre terminate in a truncated and raised bilobal base. The centres of each pillar are joined by a crossbar with two circular motifs at each end. The circles are decorated with concentric circles and the bar with linear designs in relief carving. A metal chain is wrapped around the lower end of the pillars just above the base.

A flat semi-circular collar of beadwork. Beading is lacy with a zigzag triangular design . There is a button and a small beaded loop that acts as a clasp at the back centre of the piece.

Loan of 64 works of art from the collection of the Johannesburg Art Gallery for an exhibition entitled ‘From the Impressionists to Picasso: Masterpieces from the Johannesburg Art Gallery' at Forte di Bard. The exhibition is a partnership between Vidi Srl and the City of Johannesburg, and forms part of the City's promotion of its cultural holdings both in South Africa and abroad. Whilst the exhibition celebrates the richness of the JAG's European collection, it also aims to introduce Italian audiences to South African masters such as Gerard Sekoto, Irma Stern, George Pemba and William Kentridge.

Collage, oil and screenprint work with Victorian apron. Apron is imprinted with various stereotypical depictions and images of Sarah (Saartjie) Baartman, from the Victorian era, and this is a reflection of the racist and dehumanizing views and actions associated with Sarah. 

Depicts 'Mapogga' woman dressed in patterned traditional blankets and with metal neck and leg rings. Mapogga is an outdated term for the Ndebele people, which came out of interaction between the Ndebele leader Mabhogo with Voortrekkers. Although most Ndebele today find this form of address derogatory, many South Africans sadly still persist with this form of address.
