Axe blade is missing. The finial is the head of an antelope with backward pointing horns. There is a second set of backward pointing horns/wings halfway along the shaft. Both are darkened. There are two areas along the shaft that have raised rings that have been darkened and that encircle the shaft. The shaft flares out near the base into a round raised platform. The cheeks and horns of the antelope are decorated with incised lines.

The sheath is made in two pieces - the front is ivory/bone and the back wood - bound together with leather at the top and a telephone wire band at bottom. The ivory finial is carved in the shape of a buffalo standing on the top of a column that becomes a rounded shoulder. There is a star design on the front of this shoulder. The front of the sheath has a small lozenge shaped button with a Zig-zag design, three raised circles and a star design plus another raised circle on the front. There is a strip of leather attached to the back of the sheath with a projecting thong.

About 1/4 of the way down the shaft is a small headrest. It has a curved crossbar, rectangular side facing lugs and two pillars with horizontal pleats. The shaft becomes the base of the headrest.
