/The memorial commemorates a freedom fighter that was also trade unionist, politician/ umkhonto weSizwe commander and general secretary of the SA communist party. His was sent to exile in 1960. On March 08 in 1986 / at age 63, he died of an heart attack in Maputo(Mozambique). In December 2008, his body was returned home and laid to rest in Heroes Acre in Slangspruit, Pietermaritzburg./
