    This obelisk represents a Monument erected in 1922 to mark site where Piet Retief and +/- 100 of his fellow trekkers where murdered on 6 February 1938 on command of the Zulu King Dingane.

    /Piet Retief/Goewerneur van die voortrekkers vermoor met sy 70 Burger Dingaanstat/6.2.1838/KMDT.A.Greyling/KMDT.P.Meyer//Peit Retief Obelisk/This Granit Obelisk represents a monument erected in 1922 at Kwazulu-Natal. To mark the site where Piet Retief and =/-100 of his fellow trekkers where murdered on 6 February 1938 on Command of the Zulu King Dingane. The trekkers were overpowered in the royal Kraal, Umgungundlovu, and dragged to the hill. Their remains were discovered and burred on the site on 21 December 1838//The obelisk was originally designed by architect A.L.Meriring.       It's in heerengracht street in Cape Town opposite BMW. From the station you turn right then left you will see a park with big trees this is situated opposite Grand parade investment.

      It is a secured Monumental and Memorial Park with an access gate and security guards. Access to visitors are allowed.
