The old Greytown Town Hall clock is back in its original place in the old Presbyterian Church in Pietermariztburg The clock was purchased from the Central Presbyterian Church. In 1902 the tower of the Town Hall was erected and the clock began its service in Greytown. Mr E.Bolland and his son Fred climbed the Town Hall tower as official Clock Winder until 1968. in 1970 this clock was replaced with an electronic one.Purpose:Date Unveiled: 1904Designer: Stott and TomlinsonBuilder: Person/Institution Commemorated: Recorder Name: Mbalenhle Ndhlovu

Description
A Town Hall was built and right after the oppressive measures were put in place to control the other inhabitants of the area which at the time were the Zulus A struggle for a democracy then began with Bambatha Rebellion. This rebellion was an uprising against the reigning white authority by a local Zulu chief,they then forced the white residents to take shelter in the town hall so that they can give up their power in 1897.

The foundation stone was laid in 1897, but the Boer War interrupted construction, such that completion was only in 1904.

Directions to Site
Proceed along commercial road, the main road from the city center and the direction of Hilton. Than you turn left on Victoria Street, travel 2km, turn right into Mayors Walk and after 900m turn left into Naville road. Travel for 600m than turn left into Ron Campbell and right into Eugene Marais which leads to the prison entrance and Cemetery
