"This site previously named market square was the initial site where farmers would sell their produce .The first town hall was built here in 1923 .The square was renamed constitution square to commemorate the signing of the new constitution on the 10th honour this historic occasion .The decision to sign the constitution in the Vaal is symbolic in that it recognises the lives lost during the Sharpeville Massacre on the 21st March 1960 and honours all who sacrificed their lives during the struggle .The decision is further significant in that Vereeniging played host to the negotiations that ended the Anglo-Boer war from 1899-1902 .This Plaque was unveiled by Executive Mayor Councillor Mahole Simon Mofokeng on the 10th December 2018".To the glorious memory of the people who passed away on 1914 to 1919.
