Magner, Conselheird C.P, E.A De Sousa Oferecido Por Sergi De Sousa Trust, 17-9-2005 4. Rhineland Bell This Bell Tower was erected in 1971 to house the bell from the British ship SS Rhineland. The ship was sunk by mines off the English coast during World War 1, on 11 November 1915. This bell replaced the old school bell from the British navy cruiser HMS Bermuda, which had cracked. The original bell was donated by the Bullimore family in memory of Lt. Denis Bullimore, who was lost at sea when the British navy cruiser HMS Neptune was sunk by mines during World War 2, on 19 December 1941. 5. To the memory of Corp. V.J Christopher, N.C A former pupil of this school who fell in his country's service in the Native Rebellion of 1906, Condiscipuli Posuerunt 6. Bermuda Bell, The Old School Bell This bellwas donated to the school by the Bullimore family in 1951 in memory of Lieutenant D.J Bullimore, killed in World War 2 on 19 December 1941 when the British navy cruiser HMS Neptune was sunk by mines off the coast of Tripoli. All but 765 sailors aboard were lost including two other DHS Old Boys, namely R.M Campbell and B.N Kemack. The bell is from another British navy cruiser of the same era, HMS Bermuda. 7. This Memorial is a replica of the Delville Wood Dome situated outside the Old School Hall and demolished when the New School building was erected. The Dome honours all Old Boys who died in the service of their country from 1955, and was erected to mark the School's 125th Anniversary in 1991. 8. The bayonet imbedded into this Mkula tree, supported a piece of railway line. This combination served as the School Bell for some years 9. In Memory of a South African Hero Major Edwin Swales VC, DFC, 03-07-1915-23-02-1945 Natal Mounted Rifles, South African Air Force, RAF Pathfinder Force "Intrepio in attack, courageous in the face of danger, he did his duty to the last, giving his life that his comrades might live. "Edwin Swales was a pupil at Durban High School from January 1930 to December 1934. This memorial has been erected with the support of Dr. Edwina Ward, Durban High School, the S.A Military History Society, the Natal Mounted Rifles and the South African Air Force " This memorial was unveiled on 11 November 2009 by the Chief of SAAF, Lt. General Carlo Gagiano and by Dr, Edwina Ward-niece of Edwin Swales VC, DFC. 11. Anglo-Boer War, 1899-1902 F. Alexander 12. 1949, This plaque commemorates the moving of the school from the Esplanade to its present site one hundred years ago, 3 July 1994. 13. Durban High School, DEO FRETUS, in memoriam G.J Amrstrong, Head Master, 1952-1959 14. Durban High School, DEO FRETUS, These gates were erected to mark the school centenary 1866-1966. 15. G.J Armstrong gates reopened in honour of the 140th Anniversary 1866-2006, Officially opened by D,A. Magner Esq. Head Master S. Schewitz Esq. Mateic 1926 D.O. Andrews Esq. Headboy 1966 A.J Human Esq. Staff Member from 1965 on 4th November 2006 16. "The building which stood on this site until 1910 was erected in 1861 as the Natal Government Hospital for which it was used until 1879, from 1880-1894 it housed the Durban High School. From 1895-1907 accommodated portion of the Durban Boys' Model School Erected by the Durban Boys' Model School Old Boys' Association & The Durban High School Old Boys Club, 1941 Designed & executed in the Durban School of Art and Crafts, Natal Technical College, Durban, by C.D How and E,C.
