Description
A rich cultural heritage legacy was left behind by the indigenous metal workers. Ancient iron mining and tracing was practiced at most outcrops by the Baphalaborwa people, and have been excavated by archaeologists.
Each outcrop is a sacred heritage site. Two of these heritage sites Sealang and Kgopolwe, the seats for the ruling makushane-Malatji houses, have been declared as national Monuments.
Archaeological excavations reveal extensive settlements linked to the mining and forging activities. In contrast, modern day mining is regarded as being very destructive for the natural landscape.
